Vimshottari means one hundred and twenty. That is the length, in years, of one full turn through the nine planetary periods of Vedic astrology, and every life is a stretch of it.
The order never changes: Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury. What changes is where you come in. At the moment of your birth the Moon stood in one of twenty-seven lunar mansions, the nakshatras, and each mansion belongs to one of the nine. That mansion names the period you were born into, and how far the Moon had travelled through it says how much of that period was already spent. From there, the rest of your life follows in sequence.
Each period carries the character of its planet. Some ask you to build, some to feel, some to reach, some to let go. This reading takes your own sequence, from the period you were born into through the ones still ahead, and writes each as a chapter of one life.
The Vimshottari Dasha is set out in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, the foundational text of Jyotisha, the astrology of India, attributed to the sage Parashara. It has been the working timing system of Indian astrologers for centuries, and it still is.

Is it really personal, or a template with my name on it?
The timeline is yours alone: which period you were born into, how much of it was already spent, and the year and age at which every period since has turned or will turn. That is calculated from your birth data, not chosen from a menu. The chapters are then written fresh for your sequence and your age, so the periods you have lived are written as lived, the one you are in as now, and the ones ahead as ahead. The excerpt on this page came from one real reading, and no other will repeat it.
What it does not do is interpret the rest of your birth chart. This is a reading of your timing, not of your planets and houses.
I don't know my exact birth time.
It matters more here than in most readings. The whole timeline is measured from the Moon, and the Moon moves about half a degree an hour, so a time from a birth certificate, a baby book, or a call to a relative is worth the ask.
If it is truly out of reach, enter noon, which keeps the error to half a day at most, and read the result as a sketch rather than a survey: the boundaries between periods can be off by a few years, and if you were born near either end of the day the Moon may have stood in the next mansion, which changes the period you started in.
How long is it, and how does it arrive?

Is this a prediction of my future?
No. A dasha describes the quality of a period, not the events in it. Two people in a Jupiter period will live it very differently, and both will find expansion, learning, and reach easier to come by than they were. The reading is written for reflection and for planning, and it leaves the choices to you.
Does it use Vedic or Western terms?
The timing is Vedic through and through: the sidereal zodiac, the twenty-seven lunar mansions, the nine lords in their order. The writing uses the names a Western reader already knows, so Rahu and Ketu appear as the North Node and the South Node.
Do I need to know any astrology?
No. The reading opens with an introduction to the system and how to read it, and every chapter is written in plain second person. Readers who know their Jyotisha will recognize the mechanism underneath.
Can I give it as a gift?
